about
Hello! My name is Catey Fifield.

I'm a freelance editor based in Montreal, Quebec, and I'd love to assist you with your next writing project.

Keep scrolling to learn more about me, or visit the Services page to find out how I can help you polish your writing. You'll find my contact information on the Contact page.
In the spring of 2024, I graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. On top of lectures and essays, I spent most of time as an undergraduate in the office of The McGill Daily. I was the Daily's Copy Editor from 2021 to 2023 and its Managing Editor from 2023 to 2024. I also edited for various undergraduate journals at McGill, including Historical Discourses and the McGill Journal of Political Studies, and volunteered as a writing mentor for three years.

I started freelance editing because I wanted to help young and emerging writers find their voices, share their stories, and hone their skills without breaking the bank—and I wanted the freedom to do so from anywhere in the world. I specialize in copy editing and proofreading works of fiction, creative non-fiction, journalism, criticism, and academic writing. If you're looking for something else, I'd be happy to connect you to an editor who better meets your needs!

I am a member of Editors Canada who has obtained the Editing Essentials certification, and I work with the following style guides: APA, Chicago, CP, MLA.

When I'm not editing, you might find me writing a short story, reading a good book (my favourites are A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles and A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole), baking, bouldering, taking photos on 35-mm film, or watching Parks and Recreation with my roommates.
